Cutting the STL Files
How to cut an STL file ( straight line )
To cut an STL file, you will need a 3D modeling or STL processing program, such as Autodesk Meshmixer or Netfabb.
The following steps may help you cut an STL file:
- Open the STL file in the 3D modeling or STL processing program.
- Use the cutting tool to select the desired section of the models. This may be a function under the “Edit” or “Modify” menu depending on the program used.
- Place the cursor in the desired position and draw a line to determine the cutting area.
- Use the selection tool to select the desired section.
- Then press the “Delete” or “Remove” button to remove the selected section.
- Save the changes made to the STL file.
It is important to check that this operation does not affect the geometry or integrity of the 3D model before saving. If you have difficulties or are not sure how to use these tools, I recommend looking at the documentation of the program used or searching for video tutorials for additional help.
How to cut an STL file (not with a straight line)
To cut an STL file with a more complex shape than a straight line, you can use a sculpting tool or a cutting tool. These tools can be found in most 3D modeling or STL processing programs such as Autodesk Meshmixer, Netfabb, Blender, SculptGL, etc.
The following steps may help you cut an STL file:
- Open the STL file in the 3D modeling or STL processing program.
- Use the sculpting or cutting tool to select the desired area of the model.
- Use the tool to sculpt or cut the desired shape.
- Use selection tools to refine the shape.
- Then press the “Delete” or “Remove” button to remove the selected section.
- Save the changes made to the STL file.
It’s possible that some programs may allow importing other shapes or objects to be used for cutting and sculpting, such as an image or another 3D shape. Remember to also check and ensure the integrity of the model’s geometry after modifications. If you have difficulties or are not sure how to use these tools, I recommend looking at the documentation of the program used or searching for video tutorials for additional help.
