How much electricity does a 3D printer use?
A typical desktop FDM printer draws about 70 to 150 watts on average while printing, most of it heating the bed and hotend. A 120 W printer running 4 hours a day, 5 days a week uses roughly 10 kWh a month. Resin printers draw less, around 30 to 85 watts.
How much does it cost to run a 3D printer per month?
For a 120 W printer at about 87 hours a month and 0.39 EUR per kWh, running cost is around 4 EUR a month. Heavier use or a higher tariff raises it. This calculator gives your exact monthly, per print and yearly figures.
How do I calculate my printer power cost?
Multiply the printer wattage in kilowatts by the hours you print, then by your price per kWh. A 0.12 kW printer running 5 hours at 0.39 EUR per kWh costs about 0.23 EUR. The tool adds up months and years automatically.
Do 3D printers use a lot of electricity?
Not really. Most desktop printers use about the same power as a games console or a bright light bulb while running. The bed heater is the biggest draw. Over a full year of regular use it usually adds up to tens of euros, not hundreds.
Does standby power matter?
A printer left powered on but idle can draw a few watts around the clock, which adds up over a month. Enter the standby watts and idle hours in the advanced section to include it, or switch the printer off at the wall to avoid it.
How can I lower my 3D printing electricity cost?
Enclose the printer to keep heat in, lower the bed temperature where the material allows, print at efficient speeds, and switch the machine off when idle. An efficient, well-insulated printer noticeably cuts the running cost.
