The SANIX3D Filament Weight to Length Calculator is a free online tool that converts filament weight to length and back, for any material and diameter. Enter the weight from a spool label or a scale and get the length in meters, or switch modes and enter a length to get the weight. It shows how many meters are in a 1 kg and 500 g spool, grams per meter and filament volume, and can add cost per meter if you enter the spool price. Densities for PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, Nylon and PC are built in and editable.
How to use the filament calculator

Frequently asked questions
How many meters of filament are in a 1 kg spool?
A 1 kg spool of 1.75 mm PLA holds about 330 to 335 meters. PETG is a bit shorter at around 327 meters because it is denser, and lighter materials like ABS give slightly more. Diameter matters a lot: 2.85 mm filament of the same weight is only about 125 meters.
How do I convert filament weight to length?
Length depends on the cross-section area and the density. Weight in grams divided by the area in square millimeters times density gives the length. This calculator does it for you from the material, diameter and weight, and works in reverse too.
How much does a print weigh from its length?
Multiply the length by the grams per meter for your filament. At about 2.98 grams per meter for 1.75 mm PLA, a 100 meter print weighs roughly 298 grams. Switch the tool to length mode and enter the meters to get the weight.
Does filament diameter change the length?
Yes, a lot. A thicker strand uses more material per meter, so the same weight gives less length. 1.75 mm is the most common size, while 2.85 mm and 3.00 mm spools of the same weight hold far fewer meters.
What density should I use for my filament?
PLA is about 1.24, PETG 1.27, ABS 1.04, ASA 1.07, TPU 1.21, Nylon 1.04 and PC 1.20 grams per cubic centimeter for unfilled filament. Carbon, glass, wood or metal filled filaments are denser, so edit the density field to match your spool.
How do I work out cost per meter of filament?
Divide the spool price by its weight for cost per gram, then multiply by grams per meter. Enter the spool price and net weight in the optional section and the calculator shows cost per meter and the cost of the length you need.
