How to use the resin cost calculator
- Enter the print – volume per model in millilitres from your resin slicer, plus a supports allowance if the slicer volume does not include them.
- Set resin and consumables – bottle price and volume, plus a percentage for gloves, IPA wash and filters.
- Add electricity – pick your printer for average power, choose your country or type your price per kWh, and enter the total vat time.
- Set the batch – how many models share the vat run and a realistic failure rate, then read the cost per model and the batch total.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to resin 3D print a miniature?
A small 28mm miniature uses only a few millilitres of resin, so material cost is often just a few cents. A large bust or statue can use 50 to 150 ml. With consumables, electricity and a failure buffer added, a typical resin print lands anywhere from a few cents to a couple of euros per model.
How do I calculate resin cost per model?
Divide the bottle price by the bottle volume to get the price per millilitre, then multiply by the volume of your model. A 22 EUR bottle of 1000 ml is 0.022 EUR per ml, so a 40 ml model uses about 0.88 EUR of resin.
How much resin does a print use?
Your resin slicer (CHITUBOX, Lychee) shows the volume in millilitres for the whole plate. Divide by the number of models for per-model volume, or read a single model directly. Small minis use 2 to 10 ml, busts 30 to 80 ml, large statues 100 ml and up.
Why is the resin failure rate higher than FDM?
Resin prints fail more often – supports pulling off, suction cupping, under-cured layers or a cloudy FEP. A failure buffer of 10 to 20 percent spreads that wasted resin and time across your good prints, so the average cost stays realistic.
Should I include consumables and printer wear?
Yes for the true cost. Gloves, isopropyl alcohol and filters add up, and the LCD screen wears out after a few thousand hours. Consumables are a percentage of resin cost here, and printer wear is optional in the advanced section.
What does one litre of resin cost?
Standard 405nm resin runs about 17 to 30 EUR per litre from Elegoo and Anycubic. Tough, water-washable and specialty resins cost more. Enter your actual bottle price for an accurate result.
